Established in 1917, Camp Bullis was originally used as one of many training sites for the American Expeditionary Force The American Expeditionary Forces or AEF was the United States Armed Forces sent to Europe in World War I. During the United States campaigns in World War I the AEF fought in France along side British and French allied forces in the last year of the war, against Imperial German forces. The AEF helped the French Army on the Western Front during the soon to be sent to Europe. Used as a small arms and rifle range for Fort Sam Houston, no units were stationed at the Camp. After World War I, the Camp served as a training site for various civilian and military organizations, including the Civilian Military Training Corps, the Civilian Conservation Corps The Civilian Conservation Corps was a public work relief program for unemployed men, providing vocational training through the performance of useful work related to conservation and development of natural resources in the United States from 1933 to 1942. As part of the New Deal legislation proposed by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR), (CCC), the Reserve Officer Training Corps The Reserve Officers' Training Corps is a college-based, officer commissioning program, predominantly in the United States. It is designed as a college elective that focuses on leadership development, problem solving, strategic planning, and professional ethics (ROTC) and the Officer Reserve Corps.

During World War II, the 2nd, 95th, and 88th Infantry Divisions used Camp Bullis. After the war, 500,000 soldiers were processed out through the separation center at the Camp. In 1977, the Air Force established the Air Force Security Police (Air Force Security Forces United States Air Force Security Forces , formerly named Air Police (1948), then Security Police (August 1967) are the military police and the air base ground defense forces of the United States Air Force. Airmen in this field go through 13 weeks of initial technical training at Lackland Air Force Base with the 343rd Training Squadron, known as) Training Site at Camp Bullis. The Air Force was subsequently the single largest user of the camp until 1987.[citation needed]
